Article: Green group queries how toxic incinerator waste will be handled

Environmentalists have called for more details about plans to manage toxic waste from Exeter's proposed pounds32m incinerator on- site.

The power-generating plant earmarked for Grace Road, on the Marsh Barton industrial estate, could handle up to 60,000 tonnes of municipal waste a year.

It was revealed yesterday that Devon County Council was investigating technology which would allow harmful fly-ash to be managed at the plant.

Now, Andrew Bell, of Exeter Friends of the Earth, wants to hear more details on the proposals to treat the waste on-site.

He said: "We would need to know clearly what would happen to the toxic material, as there is a large population nearby."
