Article: Trainer rod confused by sgt cecil's Ascot failure

Cullompton trainer Rod Millman was at a loss to explain why his horse Sergeant Cecil finished last at the Royal Ascot Gold Cup.

The eight-year-old had been highly fancied and was second favourite to Yeats going into the showpiece race.

But Sergeant Cecil's trademark burst of power at the end of the race was nowhere to be seen and he trundled over the line 14th out of 14.

Millman said: "No good I'm afraid, but theses things happen. I don't know what happened. The horse seemed fine after the race.

"It's always disappointing. Maybe the horse was just having an off day, like humans do sometimes."
