Love him or loathe him there's no denying that Tony Blair is a
people person.
As parliamentary correspondent for the Express & Echo at
Westminster, I can't claim to have been in the outgoing Prime
Minister's inner circle.
But I have met him on a number of occasions and seen his
performance at the Commons dispatch box.
There is no doubting he is an exceptional politician. After all,
you don't get to head a major party and lead it to three successive
General Election wins without some pretty remarkable qualities.
I experienced this on one encounter at Downing Street where he was
meeting a group of Devon residents.
