Engineers from Exeter University have won an award for developing
curtains that could minimise injuries inflicted by a terrorist
attack.
The curtains, which are still under development, are made from a
novel "auxetic" fabric, which absorbs the energy and debris from
explosions.
Along with staff from university company Auxetix Ltd and Tiverton-
based firm John Heathcoat & Co Ltd, the academics have been awarded
the Techtextil Innovation Prize.
The invention has been shown off at a leading trade fair held in
Frankfurt.
Prizes were awarded to winners from the UK, France, Germany,
Belgium, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland.
