Finding a suitable vehicle after starring in a long-running
success has often proved difficult. There are many soap actors who've
fallen by the wayside after quitting the show that made their name,
while other thespians have also struggled to find a hit follow-up to
their top-rated dramas or comedies.
But Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford must have thought they were
onto a real winner when they were cast in Studio 60 on the Sunset
Strip. For a start, it was created by Aaron Sorkin, the man behind
Whitford's previous hit, The West Wing. It also had a healthy budget,
a sharp script and a great supporting cast. However, despite
fantastic reviews, the show flopped with audiences in the US.
