Almost 100 lives could be saved over the next decade across North East Lincolnshire through a new public smoke-free policy.

Health experts say the introduction of smoke-free in enclosed public places could potentially prevent up to 90 people over the next 10 years from contracting fatal illnesses through passive smoking.

Dr Tony Hill, joint executive director of public health for North East Lincolnshire Council and the North East Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust, said: "There is no doubt that the introduction of smoke- free in the borough will make a real difference to the health of many people and dramatically reduce the health risks of those exposed to secondhand smoke.
