More than pounds1-million in council tax went uncollected by North
East Lincolnshire Council last year.
This shocking figure is almost pounds100,000 more than during the
previous financial year.
Figures released by the Department for Communities and Local
Government show that pounds1,190,000 in council tax was uncollected
by the authority in 2006/7.
This is pounds93,000 more than in 2005/6 when the figure was
pounds1,097,000.
Although the council will continue to chase the outstanding money
this year, the GMB union has called for greater efficiency in council
tax collection among all local authorities.
