Ministers have pledged a crackdown on 'satellite navigation
sickness' which has been blamed for an increasing number of traffic
snarl-ups in South Devon.
Roads Minister, Stephen Ladyman, branded as 'ridiculous' the use
of the car-based navigation systems by truckers leading to lorries
clogging up narrow rural roads.
He promised to bring forward proposals to tackle the problem as
soon as possible, after the issue was raised during a Parliamentary
debate on road links in the region.
There has been a catalogue of incidents in South Devon caused by
satellite navigation devices directing lorries down unsuitable roads.
In one case a heavy goods refrigeration vehicle got stuck on a
bridge for four ...
