Article: Juggling stock on summer Saturdays On every summer Saturday back in the 1950s, Torquay was able to fill three trains running non-stop from Torquay to Paddington. Most famous was the regular noon departure of the Torbay Express, but on Saturdays this was preceded by two others, the 10.30am and the 11.30am, both of which also ran non-stop to London.

On every summer Saturday back in the 1950s, Torquay was able to
fill three trains running non-stop from Torquay to Paddington. Most
famous was the regular noon departure of the Torbay Express, but on
Saturdays this was preceded by two others, the 10.30am and the
11.30am, both of which also ran non-stop to London.
The Torbay Express was formed of the regular summer nine coach
weekday set, plus another four coaches added at Paignton, making the
full train up to 13 coaches, which would certainly need banking
assistance from Torquay, through Torre station to Shiphay bridge,
which was as far as the banker was allowed to go.
