Following a report on the Teignbridge Indoor Bowls Centre by
columnist, Tony Atkins, in yesterday's Herald Express, Teignbridge
Council has responded robustly, stating clearly that the decision to
end the lease was taken only after proper consideration of all the
facts.
Teignbridge Deputy Chief Executive, Phil Shears, explains:
"The Club had accrued more than pounds64K of debt and were unable
to provide convincing evidence of how that debt was to be repaid.
Despite frequent efforts to assist the Club in the past with their
financial difficulties, Teignbridge had little choice but to make a
decision that reflected the best interests of all its council tax
payers."
