Devon's Stephen Knowles is looking to join the parade of champions
at the 109th Torbay Open at Torquay on Saturday but Mike Austin
(Cheshire) and Daniel Pethig (Wales) have already done it and got the
T-shirt.
Twelve months ago, Pethig beat local favourite Ashley Hewitt
(Torquay) to win the boys' 16 and under trophy and emulate 2006
winner Mike Austin.
Yesterday, both these former champions won through to the quarter-
finals of the 18 and under singles where they were joined by top seed
Stephen Knowles.
The Exeter boy will be hoping it's third time lucky after losing
in the last two finals and yesterday he beat Bleddyn Bird (Wales) 6-
1, 6-2 to reach the last eight and keep his dream alive.
