An ambulance taking a fatally injured motorcyclist to Torbay
Hospital was itself involved in a collision minutes later at
Paignton's notoriously busy Tweenaway Cross yesterday.
The double collision involving the 24-year-old rider from Torquay,
who was pronounced dead at Torbay Hospital, brought Paignton to
Brixham traffic to a standstill for seven hours.
The initial accident happened three miles away at a blackspot
junction outside Churston Ferrers Grammar School just before 8am,
when the motorcyclist's 550cc Kawasaki collided with a blue Skoda
pick-up truck from Merc Ltd in Brixham. The motorbike then bounced
into the path of oncoming traffic.
