Torbay Council has been found guilty of 'chronic failure' and
'neglect' after another saga over providing information to a
government body, a court heard.
The authority was yesterday fined pounds1,000 and ordered to pay
pounds500 costs in a case which saw chief executive Elizabeth Raikes
named as one of the key members of staff at fault.
The council also incurred further legal costs in its defence.
The authority pleaded guilty to the charge of 'neglecting to
furnish information when required' to Her Majesty's Revenue and
Customs, which brought the prosecution after it took the local
authority a year to pass on details about apprentices' earnings.
