Growing up in Torbay in the 1960s and 1970s was exciting.

All through the summer, the beaches were packed, the hoteliers were smiling, the camp sites were mini townships and there were long queues outside the theatres to see the stars appearing in lavish variety shows.

The downside, of course, for us 'locals' were the endless traffic jams and even a feeling, sometimes, of being strangers in our own towns.

However, they were prosperous times for Torbay, especially as the tourism boom ...
