The fight to stop the closure of Torbay Hospital's sterilisation
unit, with the loss of 40 local jobs, is being taken to London as
part of a march by thousands of NHS staff.
A union boss has predicted that other services including catering,
porters and cleaners might also be privatised now that South Devon
Healthcare has become a foundation trust.
Around 80 nurses, cleaners and clerical workers from Torbay
Hospital will join some of those whose jobs are under threat heading
for London in two coaches on Saturday to join the NHS march and rally
to Trafalgar Square.
Torbay Hospital is currently proposing to close the sterile
