Article: Divided over the civic centre

Instead of wanting to knock down the Civic Centre, Plymouth should be proud of its 1950s heritage and confident enough to preserve it, says Jeremy Gould, Professor of Architecture at the University of Plymouth.

And he paints a bleak picture of the city centre without the building that has been loved and loathed in equal parts since it was opened in 1962, writes Political Reporter Keith Rossiter.

"Do we want another Drake Circus? Another low-grade development?" he said yesterday.
