The City of Plymouth Festival is celebrating its 93rd year this
year with a series of dance, speech and drama and music events spread
across the 12 months.
The dance festival is to be held in the Athenaeum Theatre from
today to Saturday, inclusive.
The festival gives children from the age of four to 18 the
opportunity to dance on a stage, in front of an audience and be
judged by a professional adjudicator.
Applications are invited and received from dance schools in Devon
and Cornwall and sometimes further afield, and this year the entries
total nearly 1,300 competitors.
The adjudicator chooses the first three places and in most
classes, the winner receives a cup to hold for a year.
