The former owner of the Glen Ellyn Ice Skating School was
sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for repeatedly molesting a
girl during a two-year period, beginning when she was 8 years old.
Ronald Schlabach, 37, tearfully apologized to the girl, now a
teenager, before he was sentenced by DuPage County Judge George
Bakalis. The girl was not a student at Schlabach's well-known ice
skating school, authorities said, but was left in his care
frequently. Schlabach, who was arrested last year, pleaded guilty in
September to aggravated criminal sexual assault and faced a 6- to 30-
year prison term. Prosecutors sought a 12-year term, saying
Schlabach, of Glen Ellyn, abused a position of trust.
