Article: Painted leopard skin pattern adds African theme

Q. I'm decorating my master bedroom and bathroom. The rooms have
an African theme, and I'm using three colors of green on the walls--
sage, avocado and moss, partly colorwashed with brownish gold ceiling
and trim. I'd like to paint the top of the bathroom vanity to look
like leopard skin to match the wallpaper border. Is it possible to
paint this surface and what colors would you suggest? Do I varnish?
A. I am assuming that your vanity top is plastic laminate
(melamine), and if so, you can paint it. Sand it first, and apply a
high adhesion primer so the paint will adhere.
The leopard skin print is great fun to do and will look fantastic
in your bathroom, given the African theme.
