Article: Purists decry new-look Rose Bowl

LOS ANGELES--Illinois grad Amanda Massucci watched with sadness as Miami players celebrated their Rose Bowl berth.

The game known as the Grandaddy of 'Em All is different this season.

"It should have been Illinois," Massucci said.

Instead, for the first time since 1946, teams other than the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions will play in the Rose Bowl. Miami (Big East) and Nebraska (Big 12) will meet there in the Bowl Championship Series title game.

"What does Miami, or Nebraska, know about the specialness of the Rose Bowl? Nothing," Massucci said. "I wish the BCS would stop this nonsense and keep the Rose Bowl for the Big Ten and the Pac-10."
