The Cubs and Dusty Baker are so comfortable with the expectation
they eventually will get together, both sides agreed Thursday not to
meet face-to-face until early next week. With no competition for
Baker in sight, they are taking a leisurely stroll toward the virtual
certainty that Baker will be named the next Cubs manager.
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said he will sit down with Baker
at an undisclosed location either Monday or Tuesday to discuss the
organization and any of Baker's questions. The summit could occur in
San Francisco, near Baker's home, but Phoe-nix might be the more
likely site.
Hendry is overseeing the club's annual organizational meetings in
Phoenix before GM meetings ...
