Article: Lafayette smothers North Kansas City in 1st round

The North Kansas City girls had no answer for Lafayette guard Yanique Javois on Thursday afternoon.

She poured in a game-high 18 points. But it's not as if the Fighting Irish really needed any of their players to produce that much offensively.

The Hornets hit just four field goals after the first quarter, and Lafayette whipped North Kansas City 48-31 in the first round of the Benton Lady Cardinal Holiday Tournament at Springer Gymnasium.

"They had a hard time finding any open shots," Lafayette coach Brady Jasper said. "We just kind of sat back and were able to cut off their baseline cuts.

"It's hard to compare, but this was one of our better defensive efforts."
