The Missouri Air National Guard's 139th Airlift Wing, with more
than 1,000 men and women, has remained a beehive of activity in 2003
supporting a variety of missions for America.
In March, the military sent six Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport
aircraft and about 300 members of the Airlift Wing overseas to Saudi
Arabia and then to Qatar for more than five months. Their mission was
to ferry beans, bullets, personnel, and anything else the military
needed throughout Southwest Asia.
Each transport plane was assigned two aircrews and flew day and
night missions round the clock to any airport or dirt landing strip
where supplies were needed.
