BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Northwest Missouri State coach Steve
Tappmeyer called two timeouts before four minutes ran off the clock
on Wednesday.
He would have stopped time altogether, if he could have.
Given just their second chance ever to play in the NCAA Division
II Elite Eight, Tappmeyer's Bearcats looked downright putrid in the
first 10 minutes, falling 20 points behind Southern Indiana while
offering little or no resistance.
Northwest recovered with its best offensive second-half of the
season, but it never overcame the horrific start and made an early
tournament exit with an 88-81 defeat.
