Diamonds are forever.
They're a girl's best friend.
They're darned expensive.
And now - (drum roll please) - they're also a symbol of power,
independence and class.
That's the marketing campaign, anyway.
"Your left hand says, 'we,' your right hand says 'me,'" goes the
ads for The Diamond Trading Company, the rough diamond sales arm of
De Beers. "Your left hand rocks the cradle, your right hand rules the
world."
Women of the world, they say, raise your right hand.
But first, buy a nice rock.
"They're always popular," says Karen Read, vice president of
Halbert Jewellers Inc.
Many women want right-hand rings as anniversary or birthday
