Seeing blues, greens, yellows, browns and grays through two lenses, polarized sunglasses tints are not just another fashion trend. They actually have a purpose in protecting people's sight.

"I like the lighter tinted ones," St. Joseph resident Jeanne Grable says as she browses The Spec Shoppe's sunwear selection. "I'm very sensitive to sunlight, so that helps me when I'm out driving."

For a cheap price, you may purchase fashionable colored sunglasses from accessory stores. But what you may not realize is these sunglasses are poor protectors against sunlight.

"They might give you a false sense of security," says Julie Nigh, manager of The Spec Shoppe.
