Six St. Joseph Fire Department companies responded to a fire at
719 Albermarle St. Wednesday morning and encountered a substance that
is hard for them to fight.
The fire happened at 11:40 a.m. and spread to the home's attic,
which was filled with cellulose insulation, said Bob Bangerter, the
battalion chief on the scene.
In their efforts to extinguish the blaze, holes were punched in
the home's ceiling and voluminous amounts of cellulose cascaded down
on the working firefighters. The problem with the insulation is that
