Article: City rules out landfill privatization

Privatizing the city of St. Joseph's landfill is no longer considered a viable option, and the city will now try to find more trash haulers to use the landfill.

The city had been looking into selling or leasing the landfill to a private company for more than a year.

After a detailed presentation Tuesday night, the City Council informally decided to follow Public Works Director Bruce Woody's recommendation that the dozen bids it received were too low to justify getting rid of the landfill. Even by selling or leasing the landfill, the city still would've had to pay for future closure costs.
