Article: School funding formula sent to House floor

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A week after killing the state's proposed school funding formula, a House committee on Wednesday breathed new life into the bill and sent it to the House floor.

The Foundation Formula bill, authored by Sen. Charlie Shields, R- St. Joseph, passed by a 15-8 vote. A similar version of the bill failed 14-9 in the same committee on April 27.

Rep. Martin Rucker, D-St. Joseph, who voted against the bill last week, was one of the committee members to switch his vote and was the only Democrat to vote in favor of the bill.
