Missouri HMO

enrollment declining

The Health Maintenance Organization or HMO enrollment experienced another sharp decline in Missouri last year. The Missouri Department of Insurance recently issued the HMO Annual Report for 2004, revealing a 10 percent drop from 2003's enrollment figures.

Revenue, however, for HMOs increased by 2 percent over 2003 to about $3.6 million.

Of the nine geographic regions by which Missouri HMO enrollment is divided, five regions experienced a drop. The eastern region, which includes St. Louis, Mo., dropped almost 64,000 members. The western region, which includes Kansas City, experienced a slight increase in participation.
