Article: Mount St. Scholastica plans to raze its administration building

ATCHISON, Kan. - The Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica have announced plans to raze the administration building that has served the monastic community for more than 80 years.

"The Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica are adjusting to changing times," said Sister Anne Shepard, prioress. "We have finalized a sad but necessary decision."

No date has been set for razing the building sometime in 2006.

Since 1990, costs of maintaining the underused building have spiraled as expenses mounted, Sister Shepard said in a statement. For several years, costs have exceeded income produced by the administration building.
