Article: Rock Port to get biodiesel plant

A farmer-led group plans to build a biodiesel plant in Rock Port, Mo.

The Heartland Biodiesel plant will cost $40 million to $45 million to construct. Once production begins, it will employ about 28 people.

"We've been working on it a little over a year now," said Kent Fisher of Fairfax, Mo., who is vice president of Heartland's board of directors.

The plant will utilize both vegetable oil and animal fat to produce 30 million gallons of biodiesel per year. The fuel can be blended with petroleum and used in all diesel engines.

The success of the ethanol industry motivated Heartland's members
