A Republican candidate for Buchanan County auditor is being sued
for not paying more than $48,000 in rent on former office space.
Colonial 353 Redevelopment Corp. filed the petition late Tuesday
against Mary Scott, who is vying with Democrat Nancy Nash to replace
Susan Montee in the November general election.
Ms. Scott, a certified public accountant, signed a five-year lease
for office space at 2300 Frederick Ave. on Aug. 1, 2001, but vacated
the premises in July 2004, citing a fear for her and her employees'
safety.
Colonial President Jim Larkin alleges that she never satisfied her
remaining balance and that she owes $48,642.93.
Ms. Scott said Wednesday she wasn't aware of the suit.
