Seaboard reports

$61M in earnings

Seaboard Foods reported net earnings of $61 million for the quarter that ended Sept. 30. The earnings were based on net sales of $678 million.

The Shawnee Mission, Kan., company also reported earnings of $48.51 per share, for a dividend of 75 cents per share. The figures compare to net earnings of $52 million and earnings per share of $41.90 for the third quarter of 2005.

Seaboard markets all the pork produced at the Triumph Foods plant in St. Joseph.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Seaboard noted that in September, the company signed a federal consent degree to pay $240,00 in civil penalty because of environmental pollution ...
