Article: Johnnie Hoggatt lived out his Highway Patrol dream

A 35-year career ends next week for a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper who's lived his childhood dream.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop H commander, Capt. Johnnie B. Hoggatt, retires next Thursday after 35 years on the force.

"He (the captain) loves the Highway Patrol and he is the Highway Patrol," said Nancy Lock, his assistant for the last five years.

Since age 5, he knew he wanted to be a state policeman. His mother saved a note card, which her son wrote as a kindergartner about being a state trooper.

"I never lost that desire," Mr. Hoggatt said. "You can run across something new and interesting all the time."
