For the last four hours, I'd been perched on a cooler painting
cabinets.
My back ached, my head hurt and my fingers were caked with cream-
colored paint.
But after three coats, I was finally finished. The dark wood I
despised was hidden and as I swept paint on the last door, I was
awash with relief.
Then my partner came down to the garage. Look, I said,
anticipating praise. I'm done.
He smiled and drew close to a row of cabinets drying on the
washing machine box.
"Uh oh. I think they need another coat," he said, closely eyeing
one of the cabinets. "Yeah, I think one more coat would do it."
I wanted to punch him.
