Article: Lathrop woman pleads in embezzlement case

KANSAS CITY - A Lathrop, Mo., woman pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to embezzling more than $400,000 from her employer.

Margaret A. Plowman, 59, waived her right to a grand jury and made the plea before U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith on a charge of interstate transportation of stolen property, said U.S. Attorney John F. Wood.

Ms. Plowman admitted she stole more than $416,000 from Everett Quarries Company Inc. in Plattsburg, Mo. The company operates six quarries in Clinton County.

She was the firm's bookkeeper and office manager for 32 years, until she was fired in May 2006. She admitted embezzling $289,000 in cash from the company starting in January 2000.
