AS far as dental procedures go, there may not be one as feared, yet more misunderstood, than the root canal. Those two words are enough to send even the bravest of men scurrying underneath a table. However, four root canals later, I am happy to emerge from underneath the table to report that my previous bias towards root canals was unwarranted.

Where does the root canal's bad reputation come from? According to Dr. G. Wayne Christian, a Charleston-based endodontist, a lot of it comes from patients delaying the treatment.
