Live from the fashion battlefield

LIKE many of my gender, I hate shopping for clothes - especially my own.

That fact was brought home last week when I decided I could no longer delay buying my annual fall wardrobe - a pair of jeans and a six-pack of tube socks.

The world of low fashion can be so overwhelming.

First of all, there was the matter of deciding which "mart" to patronize - Wal- or K-. Both have their merits and their weaknesses.

Kmart's Route 66 line is reasonably priced and reasonably well made. I like the freewheeling sense of adventure suggested by its name.

Wal-Mart's store-brand line of men'swear is of similar quality. It's name, Faded Glory, resonates with my current station in life.
