Q. My family--including my mother, brother, a dog and a cat--has
recently moved into a 100-year-old home that we are planning to
redecorate this summer. This house has lots of character, but it is
in dire need of some tender loving care because of years of misguided
renovation.
We find the living/dining room area particularly difficult to plan
because of its long, narrow shape and because of a poorly situated
wood stove that we plan to replace with a new gas fireplace. The room
has a wonderful view on the north side, and we had thought about
adding another window on that wall.
Our living room is mostly used for reading, listening to music and
occasionally for watching television, although ...
