Whether it was through her interest in the Field Museum, the University of Chicago or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Marie Louise Rosenthal loved the humanities and arts.

And because of her endless contributions and volunteerism, many Chicago institutions learned to count on Mrs. Rosenthal as one of their best friends.

A lifelong Chicago area resident, Mrs. Rosenthal died Thursday at her winter home in Tucson, Ariz. She was 95.

"She always had a love of the arts and music," said her daughter Louise R. Glasser.

Mrs. Rosenthal also was known for her strong character, according to family members.
