SUBTLE and synthetic, the unmistakable scent of new carpet
permeates Schwabe-May at Charleston Town Center.
The olfactory evidence of the recently revamped look hits
customers as soon as they enter the store, a mainstay of Charleston's
retail scene since the 19th century. A step across the newly tiled
entryway lies the first visual proof: an understated floor covering
in charcoal-gray-flecked taupe.
However, Lynne Schwabe hopes other parts of the remodeling job,
which began in July, make a larger impression on clientele. These
