Baseball owners want the outcome of the All-Star Game to determine
which league will get the home-field advantage in the World Series.
When their vote was announced in January, I thought it was silly,
like most of the owners' ideas. But the concept has been growing on
me. The White Sox will host the All-Star Game this summer at U.S.
Cellular Field. Wouldn't it be great if the game actually meant
something?
Maybe you find the owners' plan only slightly less offensive than
the concept of a designated hitter. But what's the harm in trying the
All-Star idea for one season, as the Fox network has suggested?
Feeling the All-Star Game has become an exercise in drudgery, fans
have been tuning out ...
