Charlie Jones, this years Sunday Gazette-Mail West Virginian of the Year, grew up in the Southern coalfields and on his familys Lundale Farm in Oak Hill, but found his lifes passion along the banks of the Kanawha River. Today, Jones still runs the familys business transporting coal, limestone, chemicals, sand, gravel and other products on barges along the Kanawha and Ohio rivers. Based in Port Amherst, just east of Charleston, Amherst Industries has 35 boats on the water.
