TEMPE, Ariz.--The buckeye, the doe-eyed fruit of the buckeye tree,
is a tough nut to crack.
And so are the Buckeyes, who were supposed to be deer in the
headlights as top-ranked Miami cruised to its second straight
national championship.
Refusing to be awed by the 34-game winning streak of the
Hurricanes, No. 2 Ohio State captured its first national title since
1968 with an improbable 31-24 double-overtime victory Friday night in
the Fiesta Bowl.
In what might be the greatest championship game college football
has seen, the Buckeyes and Hurricanes both refused to lose. Playing
