No one is standing pat at Class VI River Runners.

Founded in 1978, Class VI welcomed its 500,000th guest on the river a few months back.

But the number of rafters who are coming has slipped over the last dozen years, both locally on the New River and Gauley River and nationally, said Lisa Gale, the company's marketing director.

"We all spend a lot of time and energy scratching our heads and trying to figure that all out," Gale said. "We blame it on everything from changing weather patterns to kids preferring to sit in front of video games and people not getting outdoors when they were young."
