THERE is Swiss cheese and there is Swiss cheese. Confused? Don't
be. As much as food producers like to play games with their labeling,
it's pretty easy to decipher their madness when it comes to Swiss
cheese: If it says Swiss cheese, it's probably not Swiss cheese - as
in "made in Switzerland."
All that ham and Swiss you've been eating over the years? There's
very little Swiss about it. Big American cheesemakers make mass-
market cheese with holes and slap "Swiss" on it.
The Swiss should be seriously cheesed off about this.
The Americanized version is supposed to taste like the great
cheeses of Switzerland, but it takes only a bite of, say, Gruy re ...
