Article: Face to face: Kanawha City group throws a party to bring people together

The motto of the Kanawha City Community Association is "Recapturing the Village," which is exactly what the group set out to do Saturday.

The neighborhood's first "Village Fair" offered residents free entertainment for the afternoon, as well as 30 food and information booths representing local schools, churches and businesses.

Organizers said they were pleased with the turnout of people who came out to listen to three bands and eat hot dogs while their children toted balloons and played games.

"We wanted to do this for the neighbors," said group President Rick Burka. "To get people out of their houses and face to face, and renew old relationships."
