A Week of celebrations are planned to celebrate the re-whitening
of the White Horse at Kilburn, near Thirsk, North Yorks.
A week-long festival of events takes place from this Saturday
through to June 4 and includes aerial trips over the White Horse with
the Yorkshire Gliding Club and walks around the White Horse.
More usually associated with the chalky hills of the south of
England, Kilburn's White Horse was the idea of local-born Thomas
Taylor who, during his move to London, was inspired by the white
horses he saw in Berkshire.
In typical Yorkshire style, he decided, while there might not be
much chalk in Yorkshire, there are certainly plenty of hills - and
