Frederick Gibson (71), of Cornwall Road, Ashby, called up the new housing corporation on Wednesday after his smoke alarm went off at 4.30pm and he was unable to stop it.

But despite being told someone would be with him soon, the electrical alarm was still going off three hours later.

"My wife and I burnt some food so the alarm went off, but we opened all the windows and the doors and it just wouldn't stop," the pensioner said.

"I pulled the emergency cord and told North Lincolnshire Homes I couldn't switch off the alarm.

"But no one came to help, so the alarm ...
